Here's a Simple Way to Help Your Child (and You) Have a Better Year in 2020.
Did 2019 not turn out the way that you thought it would - or wanted it to?
Years ago I started creating vision boards for my self, my family, and my business.
Ever since then I have loved this time of year to look back and see what I thought my year would look like.
I have been so amazed by these three things:
- How many of the goals that I set I met.
- The more I visualized the easier, it was to focus on my goals throughout the year.
- How looking at my year in review helped me rework and set new goals for the next year.
Going into 2020 without a vision is like getting in your car and driving without knowing where you are going.
Here is the thing: it does NOT have to be complicated. So don’t make it complicated.
I put together the simple picture above to show you just how easy it can be. Use it as a guide and feel free to expand on it.
All you have to do is find a window of time when you are around your kids.
Pull out some magazines, some paper, scissors, and glue and start working on a board for yourself.
I'm pretty sure if this is something new, it will grab your kid's attention and they will ask what you are doing. When they do, invite them over to take a look and start a conversation. Use this as an opportunity to talk about how to set goals for the year.
It could be as simple as family photos of fun activities to remind them of what fun they had in 2019 or as specific as picking something new they’d like to learn.
Don’t have any expectations and just let the conversation happen naturally. If they don’t want to make a board, who cares? Just ask them some of the questions and find photos to make one for them.
I love to hang mine where I can see it every day and I think it's great for kids to have one in their closet or in an area where the family gathers.
The best part about this is it can be a beautiful way to set your family intentions for 2020 and learn so much about yourself and your child in the process.
